STARS and Safe Account Information Page

PDF on how to update your STARS and SAFE Account Information

Video link from State Support Team Region 2 on how to update your SAFE account email. Please note that the information including telephone number, etc. is Region 2 specific. To contact Region 9 please see the telephone number in the header of this page.

STARS is set up to allow educators and administrators to access their personal information including contact hours, professional development history, licensure, certificates of attendance, and other information.

Is Your STARS Profile and Safe Account information Up-to-Date? Click HERE for step by step directions on how to change your Safe Account information and your STARS profile information.

Another VERY IMPORTANT reason to update the STARS profile is that it is the ONLY WAY PARTICIPANTS CAN BE NOTIFIED IF AN EVENT IS CHANGED OR CANCELLED. Please make certain that all e-mail addresses, telephone numbers and addresses currently in the STARS system is correct. You can update your password or change your profile information (address, email and phone) by clicking on the appropriate link under "Account Maintenance" at the top of the ODE Safe Account Portal webpage. You must first log in to the Portal to access this page.

Creating a Safe Account on STARS

How Do I Log In?

For workshops, classes and events taking place after January 2008, all users must create a Safe Account and logon STARS v2.0. To review all event information that took place prior to January 2008, users must login to the older version of STARS.

  1. Go to and click on the SAFE Account Log In at the top of the page.

  2. Log-in with your user name and password.  If you do not have a SAFE Account, click on Sign Up and follow the prompts

NOTE: If you have problems obtaining a SAFE Account you must call ODE at 877.644.6338 or e-mail SAFE.ADMIN@ODE.STATE.OH.US, as the department staff are the only ones that can help you with that problem.

Registering for Events

How Do I Register?

  1. Login STARS via the safe account sign-in box, then enter your account name and password.
  2. Click "STARS V2.0"
  3. Click "Event Search." If you know the specific date of the workshop, enter that date in both date boxes. Click the little calendar by the date to bring up a calendar or, if you are entering the date, make sure you use the format: 00/00/0000.
  4. If you do not know the exact date, enter a range of dates that encompasses the entire fiscal year 09/01/2013 through 06/30/2014.
  5. If the event is hosted by State Support Team Region 9, put Region 9 State Support Team as the event owner.
  6. Enter a key word if one is given to you regarding this particular event.
  7. DO NOT enter an event title.  If one letter or space is off from what we have entered your event will not show in the search results.
  8. Click the "Search" button.
  9. Once the search results appear, click on "Event Begins" twice to sort events chronologically.
  10. When you find the event you are looking for, double click until it is shaded a darker color, then click "register for event."
  11. This event will show on the screen. Place a check in the box at the bottom of the page, beside the description of the workshop. Click “continue” at the bottom of the page.
  12. You will see a screen that prompts you to verify that this is the workshop you wish to attend. If it is, click the “yes” box.
  13. Next is a screen that shows a confirmation that you are registered for that event. You will also receive an e-mail confirmation.  Please be certain that you have updated your profile (see directions above) so that you receive a confirmation. All event notifications use the email address you have listed in your STARS and SAFE Account databases.  Incorrect information means you will not receive those notifications.
  14. If you want to register for other events, click the button at the bottom that says “Register for another event.” This will return you to the page where workshops are entered by date. Enter the new date and repeat the process.

Note: If you have followed all of the steps listed above and still experience problems, call the State Support Team Region 9 at 330-492-8136.
